Active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) are key components of pharmaceuticals responsible for their therapeutic effect. In the Pharma-2030 strategy, the focus of the pharmaceutical industry development is precisely on localizing the production of substances in the Russian Federation. Over the past few years, the volume of production of Russian substances has been gradually increasing, however, the issue of the availability of components that are necessary to provide the pharmaceutical industry with high-quality API in the required quantity is still acute.
API manufacturers face disruptions in transport communications and interrupted logistics chains, sudden price increases and shortages of key raw materials on a daily basis. There are already several full-cycle API manufacturers and several intermediate manufacturers operating in the country. What difficulties do they face, do they feel supported by the state and how easy is it to compete with foreign manufacturers? How can other companies set up raw material production in Russia? How can it be made economically attractive? We will discuss this with experts at a round table as part of the Pharmtech & Ingredients 2024 exhibition.

Questions for discussion:

1. Certification of production of dietary supplements according to GMP standards.
   Today, in world practice, one of the most important documents defining the requirements for the production and quality control of drugs is "Good Manufacturing Practice". Industry experts propose implementing GMP requirements for the production of dietary supplements as well. But this initiative has both supporters and opponents.

2. Development of a list of dietary supplements prescribed by doctors.
   A draft federal law regulating the prescription of dietary supplements by doctors was submitted for consideration to the government commission on legislative activity. The Ministry of Health and Rospotrebnadzor will be tasked with developing a list of dietary supplements. The document is to enter into force on September 1, 2024, and some clauses on March 1, 2025. It is planned that the list will include registered high-quality and safe dietary supplements. How will this list of dietary supplements be formed? What criteria will be used for selection?

3. Selling dietary supplements on marketplaces.
   What documents should dietary supplements have so that they can be sold on marketplaces? What components should dietary supplements not contain? What sales rules do different platforms have? Should platforms conduct incoming inspection and be more attentive to the technical documentation of dietary supplements?
